Drabs. No. 1, 2, acrylic on canvas, 20/80 cm each, 2003.
Taking a drab, plain colour as a starting point, these exercises get behind appearances to show latent and implicit information. Separating such a nondescript colour (boring and even a bit sordid as your average daily copy) into its component Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black opens up an unsuspected, dazzling range of possibilities – as promised. It is often said that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. As it happens, the reverse is also true.
